Holiday DIY: Paper Stars

Holiday DIY: Paper Stars

These paper stars are a quick, easy, and affordable craft to add some whimsy to your holiday decor. You can customize them to your tastes so they can be snowflakes or stars depending on the style you choose! I hung mine as individual stars from my curtain rod, but you could easy string these into a garland or make mini versions as ornaments.

Supplies:

  • Paper (any kind will do, I re-used my grocery bags!, but this would also work well)
  • Adhesive (glue or double sided tape, I used this roller)
  • String

Video Tutorial

  1. Cut paper into squares. I did 6.5" and 10" squares, but you can play with the proportions you like! I did a combination of 5 pointed and six pointed stars so I cut 5-6 squares per star.
  2. Fold the squares on the diagonal
  3. Fold each diagonal side back and forth onto itself to create a fan effect. I did approximately 1" folds, but you make these as large or as small as you'd like.
  4. Repeat fan fold on opposite side until you are left with a skinny rectangle.
  5. Fold skinny rectangle in half lengthwise.
  6. Repeat for each square.
  7. Glue (or tape) the inside of the folded rectangle onto itself to create a V shape. Repeat for all rectangles.
  8. Glue the exterior of each of these rectangles onto each subsequent rectangle until you have achieved your desired number of points.
  9. Thread your needle with string.
  10. Punch a hole with your needle (or a hole punch) in the top of each star and thread the string through to create a loop.
  11. Hang from hooks or a curtain rod with string loops.
  12. You can also thread these into a garland if you prefer!

Happy crafting!
