In my last post, I said to install art 60" from the floor to the center of the piece. That is a general rule of thumb and works great in areas of your home where you have a blank wall and no furniture or architectural elements underneath. But what if you have a mantle, a headboard, or a sofa you are installing art above?
The rule of thumb is to install art 6-12" above furniture or architectural elements such as a mantle. Depending on the ceiling height and other architectural details (crown moulding, paneling, etc) you may need to install your piece on the lower side, 6", or may be able to raise it to 12". Play around with painter's tape to see which option you like best!
